Degassing notice

We recommend degassing this coffee for at least 35 days, up to 70. Our coffees often peak around 45 days and 60 days post-roast and are best enjoyed from then until the 90 day mark.

Our omniroast style leads to abnormally long degassing times, but just trust us, once your coffee is degassed properly, you're in for a treat.

*Please make sure not to vacuum or freeze the coffees while it's degassed enough.

Qima Coffee

SL34 - Classic Natural

Yemen

We have been invited by our friends at Qima Coffee to join the Best of Yemen competition as their international judge. It was an absolute honor, and we had a lot of fun cupping more than 100 of Yemen's best coffee offerings each year.

Amongst the entirety of the competition and their offer samples, this is one of the very best lots that impressed us the most.

Unlike our previous offerings, we picked a SL34 varietal lot that is very rare in Yemen as we also used to offer Yemenia variety mostly. Nevertheless, at the BoY2025 competition, those coffees that impressed us the most were those varietals from Scottish Laboratory, such as Kent and SL34.

SL34 varietal is known for one of the main varietals in Kenya, usually mixed with SL28, which is widely considered as a Bourbon mutation(while SL34 turned out to be an Ethiopia landrace according to a genetic institute).

Due to its varietal, this coffee was exceptionally clean and less earthy for a Yemen coffee. At the cupping, this lot was extremely floral and also perfumed with some tropical notes. We find white guava, vanilla sweetness that is common in Yemen coffees, and almost Geisha like lavender florals throughout.

Our tasting notes:

  • white guava, lavender, vanilla

Area: Ba'adan, Yemen

Altitude: 2000 masl

Varietal: Yemenia

Process: Classic Natural
