Cupping review
El Monarca delights with bright fruit flavors. Expect passionfruit followed by notes of cherry then sweet mangosteen in the finish. All those flavors are perfectly displayed in its rich body and bold sweetness. Honestly, this is really vibrant for a classic washed "traditional cultivar".

IH-90 and Chaguites terroir
This is our 2nd purchase of El Monarca farm and it was 2020 when we carried his coffee for the first time. Though the name of Chaguites is still not well known in the world, this highland has a lot of great potential for coffee production. Actually, this yard was reclaimed into coffee farm very recently. As the land is in its infancy, they planted IH-90 cultivar which is robust and disease resistant following iCafe's advice(iCafe is the national institution for coffee in Honduras).
The progress
We had a really pleasant experience with our first purchase with the 2020 harvest. It was their 2nd production year but already vibrant with some refreshing flavors and tropical vibes. After 3 years, the coffee trees became more matured. As for this harvest, we do see more ripeness in the flavors and getting more pronounced tropical flavors rather than some green vibes such as muscat that we had in the 2020 harvest. Also we had a very sweet and tropical aftertaste of mangosteen in the aftertaste, that reminds us of some good natural profess coffees. We reckon that robusta genetics in the IH90 cultivar is translated into those sweet and bold flavors due to the maturity of the trees.
